Kgaogelo Sekgota has made a positive start to life in Egypt after completing his move to Petrojet more than a week ago.

The 29-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the Egyptian club, who are based in Suez, approximately 130 kilometres east of the capital, Cairo.

Sekgota’s agent, Andrew Matjila, said the winger was pleased with the move after considering several opportunities both in South Africa and overseas.

“We had several options for KG, both locally and abroad, and Petrojet ultimately felt like the right project for him at this stage of his career,” Matjila told Soccer Laduma.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch player has been welcomed by his new club and is adapting to his surroundings, according to his representative.

“He’s happy with the move and has been very well received by the club. He’s settling in, getting to know Egypt and embracing the experience, while looking forward to the opportunity ahead,” he said.

“He’s excited about what lies ahead and is focused on giving his best for Petrojet.”

Sekgota spent the previous season with Siwelele FC, having also represented Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch during his career in South Africa.

The switch to Petrojet represents his latest move after a spell with Siwelele FC, with the player now beginning a new chapter in the Egyptian Premier League.

Petrojet begin Egyptian Premier League campaign

The Egyptian Premier League 2026-27 season started on Friday, 21 August.

Petrojet were scheduled to open their campaign at home against Asyut on Saturday, giving Sekgota the possibility of beginning his time at the club in competitive action.

The club’s base in Suez places Sekgota outside Egypt’s capital as he continues to settle into his new surroundings. Matjila said the player was embracing the experience and concentrating on making the most of the opportunity.

Sekgota’s move follows his time with Siwelele FC and his earlier spells with Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch. He is now focused on contributing to Petrojet as they begin their latest Egyptian Premier League campaign.

At 29, the winger has signed a deal that will keep him with Petrojet for two years, while his agent believes the project is suited to this stage of his career. The player’s early response to the move has been encouraging, with Matjila describing him as happy and excited about what comes next.

Sekgota has already spent more than a week with the club since arriving in Egypt and, according to Matjila, has been received well by Petrojet. He is continuing to become familiar with Egypt while preparing for the challenge ahead.
