Monaco weigh move for Freiburg defender Jordy Makengo

Defender Jordy Makengo, who has French and DR Congo nationality, is the subject of reported interest from Monaco as the Freiburg left-back is linked with a move from the Bundesliga to Ligue 1.

Makengo, 25, has started Freiburg’s only UEFA Conference League qualifying match this season and played the full 90 minutes in the appearance. He joined the German club’s senior squad in July 2023 after progressing from Freiburg II.

The left-back’s current contract runs until 30 June 2028, meaning Freiburg are not facing an imminent expiry on his deal. His market value is listed at €6m.

Makengo was born in Saint-Denis and developed in France before moving to Germany. He began his senior career with AJ Auxerre B and joined Freiburg II in 2021 on a free transfer, before making the move to Freiburg’s first team two years later.

The possible switch would take him to Monaco, who compete in France’s Ligue 1, but the rumour has not been confirmed and no transfer fee or agreement has been reported. Makengo remains under contract with Freiburg through the end of the 2027-28 season.
