Barcelona face €50m decision as Manchester United and Chelsea join Tresoldi chase
Barcelona’s pursuit of a new striker has become more complicated after Manchester United and Chelsea entered the race for Club Brugge forward Niccolo Tresoldi, while the Catalan club continues to monitor Atletico de Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Tresoldi has emerged as a target for several clubs after Barcelona registered their interest in the Germany international in recent days. The 22-year-old has attracted growing attention as clubs assess their options in the closing stages of the transfer market.
Reports earlier this week revealed that Barcelona were considering a move for the Club Brugge striker. The Belgian club had initially made clear that, in principle, it did not want to negotiate the player’s departure.
Club Brugge also pointed to its decision to reject a formal €35m offer from Roma, underlining the club’s previous stance over Tresoldi’s future. However, several local media outlets have reported that the Belgian side’s position has changed during the past few days.
The arrival of Barcelona in the transfer picture has helped trigger a significant shift in the market surrounding Tresoldi. Interest has intensified further after two leading Premier League clubs made enquiries towards the end of August.
Belgian website Football News reports that Manchester United and Chelsea have both contacted Club Brugge and people close to Tresoldi to assess whether a deal for the forward could be completed.
Both clubs are still able to strengthen their squads at this stage of the season. Their interest is also linked to the fact that neither has finalised several potential departures, leaving room for further movement in the transfer market.
Tresoldi’s situation could therefore become one of the key late-window transfer stories, with Barcelona now facing competition from two financially powerful English clubs. The player’s availability has attracted attention at a time when all three clubs are examining their attacking options.
Club Brugge has since taken another step by acknowledging that, if it cannot find an alternative and is ultimately forced to respond to pressure, it may open negotiations over Tresoldi’s departure.
The Belgian club is understood to value the forward at about €50m. That figure is significantly higher than the €35m offer previously rejected from Roma and would set the terms for any serious discussions with Barcelona, Manchester United or Chelsea.
Barcelona’s interest in Tresoldi comes alongside its continued observation of Alvarez’s position at Atletico de Madrid. The German striker is being considered as an alternative in the club’s search for a new attacking option, but the competition from the Premier League means Barcelona may need to decide quickly whether to pursue a deal.
