Zimbabwe coach Ramón Catalá promises attacking style for Warriors

New Zimbabwe head coach Ramón Catalá says he wants the Warriors to become an attacking, aggressive team that dominates possession as he prepares for his first matches in charge.

The Spanish coach was unveiled on Thursday, replacing Kaitano Tembo, who has taken over Zimbabwe’s national under-20 team.

Catalá said his football philosophy is heavily influenced by his upbringing in Barcelona, where possession-based football has long shaped the city’s football identity.

“We are from Barcelona, we are from Catalunya, so our philosophy is from there,” he said, according to Africa Football.

“Our team will be very offensive and very aggressive.

“We like to dominate the games with the ball, so we will try to have the ball in the opponents’ field. We try to be aggressive when we lose the ball and try to dominate with the ball.”

He added: “We think it is the best way to go. We want to be a very difficult team to play against.”

Catalá will begin his tenure in September when Zimbabwe face Sierra Leone and DR Congo in the opening fixtures of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
