Algeria’s Amine Gouiri scores twice as Marseille thrash Strasbourg 4-0

Algeria international Amine Gouiri scored twice as Marseille produced a dominant second-half display to beat Strasbourg 4-0 in Ligue 1 on Friday night.

Gouiri opened the scoring shortly after half-time before converting a penalty to complete his brace, as Marseille took full control of the contest.

The victory was eventually sealed by late goals from Keyliane Abdallah and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Gouiri breaks the deadlock

After a goalless first half, Marseille found the breakthrough two minutes after the interval.

Gouiri received a precise pass inside the penalty area and produced a superb finish into the bottom-right corner to put the hosts ahead.

The Algerian forward continued to pose a threat as Marseille looked to extend their advantage.

Strasbourg reduced to 10 men

Strasbourg’s task became even more difficult in the 59th minute when Samir El Mourabet was shown a straight red card following a heavy challenge.

Playing against 10 men, Strasbourg struggled to contain Marseille’s attacking pressure.

Eight minutes later, Marseille were awarded a penalty after a VAR review.

Gouiri completes his brace

Gouiri stepped up from the spot and held his nerve, sending an unstoppable penalty beyond goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen and into the right side of the net.

The second goal completed a memorable night for the Algeria international and put Marseille firmly in control.

Marseille add two late goals

Marseille continued to push for more goals despite having the result effectively secured.

Abdallah made it 3-0 in the 89th minute after reacting quickest to a rebound inside the box and firing into the bottom-right corner.

There was still time for a fourth in stoppage time.

In the sixth minute of added time, Højbjerg collected another rebound on the edge of the penalty area and drilled a low shot into the bottom-right corner.

The final whistle confirmed a convincing 4-0 victory for Marseille, with Gouiri’s two goals providing the foundation for a commanding Ligue 1 performance.
