Morgan Rogers transfer leads Premier League’s 10 biggest deals so far
Chelsea’s signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a British-record £117m is the biggest completed Premier League transfer of the window so far.
The deal is part of another major spending spree by English top-flight clubs, who have committed hundreds of millions of pounds to strengthening their squads before the new season began on Friday night.
Manchester City are second on the list after paying £116m for Elliot Anderson, while Tottenham have spent £100m on Sandro Tonali and a reported £85m on Mateus Fernandes. The latter deals have made Spurs one of the most aggressive clubs in the market under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham could yet add another major signing, with Savinho’s proposed move from Manchester City potentially worth up to £85m.
The selling clubs have also benefited significantly. Aston Villa received a substantial fee for Rogers, Nottingham Forest cashed in on Anderson and Newcastle United have generated considerable income from the sales of Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.
Manchester City could also make a sizeable profit on Savinho, having already benefited from the sales of Tijjani Reijnders and Rodri.
The Financial Times reported this week that Premier League clubs had spent about £2.3bn during the window, with Chelsea the biggest spenders.
