Wan-Bissaka returns to Premier League with Aston Villa loan

England and DR Congo defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined Aston Villa from West Ham United on loan, returning to the Premier League after his former club’s relegation to the Championship.

The 28-year-old right-back completed the move on 21 August 2026, with his spell at Villa running until 30 June 2027. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the loan.

Wan-Bissaka arrives at Villa after two seasons with West Ham, having joined the London club from Manchester United in August 2024 for €17.6m. He helped Manchester United win the FA Cup in 2024 and the English League Cup in 2023 during his time at Old Trafford.

His move to Villa follows West Ham’s relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Villa will compete in the Premier League and the EFL Cup during the 2026-27 season.

Wan-Bissaka was born in London and has represented both the Democratic Republic of Congo and England at international level. He started all four of his side’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, playing 99% of the available minutes without scoring or providing an assist.

The right-footed defender began his senior career at Crystal Palace, progressing from the club’s under-23 side before establishing himself in the first team. Manchester United signed him from Palace in July 2019 for €55m, and he later moved to West Ham as part of a further Premier League switch.

Wan-Bissaka’s arrival gives Villa an experienced option at right-back, while the player returns to the division after West Ham’s drop into the second tier. He has not yet made an appearance for West Ham or Villa in the 2026-27 campaign.

The loan agreement ends on 30 June 2027, when Wan-Bissaka is due to return to West Ham.
