Harry Kane says Premier League return ‘itch’ has faded as Bayern Munich focus continues
Harry Kane says he is no longer driven by the same desire to return to the Premier League and is fully focused on continuing his career with Bayern Munich.
The England captain left Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern in 2023 and has since won two Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and the German Supercup.
Kane, 33, has regularly been linked with a move back to England. He is still 47 goals short of Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals, but says the appeal of chasing that mark has diminished since his move to Germany.
“When I first left [Spurs], for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back,” Kane told FourFourTwo magazine after receiving his second European Golden Shoe on Wednesday.
“That itch isn’t there as much anymore. I’m extremely happy here in Munich. It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England.
“I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich, and we’ll see what the future holds.”
Kane’s contract with Bayern expires next year, with discussions about his long-term future expected to begin soon. However, he said neither he nor the club was under pressure to reach an immediate decision.
The striker has enjoyed another prolific campaign in Germany. He scored 36 goals in the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, retained the league’s top-scorer award and claimed the European Golden Shoe for a second time.
Since joining Bayern, Kane has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for the club. His Bundesliga record stands at 98 goals in 94 matches.
His latest comments represent a change from the expectation he expressed when he left Tottenham that he would eventually return to English football. Kane spent his entire senior domestic career in England before moving to Bayern, where he has continued to score at a remarkable rate.
Despite the continued speculation surrounding his future, Kane said his immediate priority was Bayern rather than a potential return to the Premier League.
Bayern will begin their Bundesliga campaign against VfB Stuttgart on 28 August.
