Yankuba Minteh transfer report questioned as Liverpool links remain unconfirmed
Liverpool’s reported interest in Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh has been thrown into doubt after people close to the Gambia international dismissed claims that the Premier League club had rejected a €58.4m bid for the player.
The report had described Minteh as a priority target for Liverpool, with Brighton said to have turned down an offer for the 22-year-old. However, sources close to the winger have strongly denied the latest information, according to Footy-Africa, describing it as “vieilles nouvelles” – “old news”.
That response has raised questions over whether Liverpool have made a recent approach for Minteh, despite the club’s name continuing to be linked with the player. No fresh, concrete interest from Liverpool has been confirmed by the winger’s representatives.
Minteh is still expected to be one of the players who could leave Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer transfer window. Several English clubs are understood to be monitoring his situation, while Liverpool have repeatedly been mentioned among the sides paying attention to his availability.
The Gambian arrived in England with a reputation as one of the game’s promising young attacking players. Last season, he made 26 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Those figures do not fully reflect the winger’s influence or his attacking potential, but they have helped maintain his value in the transfer market. It remains unclear whether Liverpool will eventually make a formal move or whether the speculation will go no further.
Minteh remains under contract with Brighton until 2029, putting the club in a strong negotiating position. Brighton are not expected to sell cheaply, with the player valued at about €45m by Transfermarkt.
His reported annual salary in England is €2,467,296, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 FCFA.
Brighton’s immediate focus will be on the opening round of the English league season, when they face Aston Villa. The match is listed with odds of 2.20 for a Brighton victory, 3.65 for a draw and 3.10 for an Aston Villa win by bookmaker 1xBet.
For now, Minteh remains a Brighton player, and the latest comments from his representatives suggest there is no confirmed new Liverpool offer on the table. His future could nevertheless remain a talking point as the summer window develops, given the continued interest in his pace, direct running and attacking promise.
