Ghana striker Rafiq Aminu joins Masafi Al-Wasat on free transfer

Ghanaian centre-forward Rafiq Aminu has joined Iraqi club Masafi Al-Wasat from Peshmerga SC on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old completed the move on 20 August 2026 and has a contract with Masafi Al-Wasat running until 20 May 2027. Aminu joins after spending the first part of the 2026-27 season with Peshmerga, having moved to the club from Ch. Brothers in January 2026.

Aminu, who was born in Kumasi and stands 1.81m tall, is a right-footed striker. His career record includes seven goals in nine appearances in Georgia’s Erovnuli Liga 2, three goals in eight matches in the Nepal Super League and two goals and two assists from 11 appearances in the Indian Football League.

He also scored once in two appearances in the Iraq Stars League and has featured in Georgia’s top division and the David Kipiani Cup. The forward’s previous experience includes spells with Chitwan, Al-Kahrbaa Club, Friends Club, Alcudia and Samgurali, as well as clubs in Georgia and Iraq.

Aminu’s career has included a period without a club between October 2024 and January 2025 before he joined Ch. Brothers. He subsequently moved to Peshmerga SC at the start of 2026, with Masafi Al-Wasat now becoming his latest club.

The striker has also won a major domestic honour in Georgia. He was part of the FC Saburtalo side that won the Georgian Cup in the 2020-21 season, before leaving the club for Samgurali in August 2021.

Masafi Al-Wasat have added Aminu to their attacking options as the Ghanaian begins another chapter of a career that has taken him through clubs in Africa, Asia and Europe. His arrival also marks a return to Iraq, where he previously played for Al-Kahrbaa Club and Peshmerga SC.

Aminu’s move from Peshmerga SC to Masafi Al-Wasat was completed on a free transfer, with the Ghanaian forward contracted until May 2027.
