Bernardo Silva presented at Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho adds midfield experience
Real Madrid have formally presented Bernardo Silva as their latest summer signing, with the Portugal midfielder signing a contract that runs for two seasons until 30 June 2028.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday at Real Madrid’s sports city, in the presence of club president Florentino Perez and honorary president Jose Martinez “Pirri”.
According to the club’s official website, Perez welcomed Silva in the boardroom before the player completed the formalities of his move by signing his contract.
Silva was then presented with two gifts: a miniature model of Real Madrid’s stadium and a watch. He also received his new team shirt, bearing his name and the number 20.
The event was promoted by the club as the official welcome ceremony for Bernardo Silva, marking the start of his time as a Real Madrid player.
Silva is the latest addition to Real Madrid’s squad during the summer transfer window and will now join the project led by Jose Mourinho, who has returned to manage the Spanish club.
Mourinho is understood to have strong confidence in the Portuguese midfielder and sees him as a player capable of bringing greater experience and tactical flexibility to Real Madrid’s midfield.
That need has become more pronounced after the club failed to sign Rodri, who moved to Barcelona. Silva’s arrival therefore gives Mourinho another experienced option as he reshapes the team ahead of the new campaign.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Silva could be included in the starting line-up for Real Madrid’s opening La Liga match against Espanyol.
He is expected to line up alongside Federico Valverde in midfield, with Aurelien Tchouameni not yet fully ready to play. The report suggests Silva could therefore make an immediate competitive debut for his new club if Mourinho selects him from the beginning.
Silva’s presentation followed the completion of the formal contract process and included the customary gifts and shirt presentation at Real Madrid’s facilities. The number 20 shirt will be his first official squad number at the club as he begins a new stage of his career under Mourinho.
The ceremony was accompanied by the club’s own Spanish-language description, “Acto oficial de bienvenida de Bernardo Silva” the official welcome ceremony for Bernardo Silva.
Real Madrid also shared footage of the occasion, describing it as “La presentacion de Bernardo Silva como nuevo jugador del Real Madrid” Silva’s presentation as a new Real Madrid player.
His potential involvement against Espanyol would give supporters an early indication of how Mourinho plans to use him and how quickly the midfielder can become part of the club’s first-choice midfield. With the campaign approaching, Silva’s experience and versatility are expected to form part of Real Madrid’s response to the failed pursuit of Rodri and Mourinho’s plans for the new season.
