Abderrazak Hamdallah makes Saudi Pro League history with record-breaking goal contributions
Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah has made history in the Saudi Professional League after becoming the competition’s all-time leader in combined goals and assists.
The Al-Taawoun forward reached the milestone on Saturday after scoring in his side’s 1-1 draw away to Al-Diriyah in the ninth round of the Roshn Saudi League.
Following a goalless first half, Al-Diriyah broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Clayton Diandy. Hamdallah responded in the 65th minute, restoring parity for Al-Taawoun with a crucial equaliser.
The goal took Hamdallah’s career goal contributions in the Saudi Pro League to 184, comprising 159 goals and 25 assists, moving him past Syrian striker Omar Al-Somah, who has recorded 183 contributions from 161 goals and 22 assists.
The achievement further underlines the Moroccan forward’s remarkable consistency in Saudi Arabian football, where he has established himself as one of the competition’s most prolific attacking players.
Hamdallah is also closing in on Al-Somah’s all-time goalscoring record. With 159 goals to his name, the Moroccan needs just three more strikes to surpass the Syrian, who currently leads the standings with 161 goals.
Saturday’s encounter produced further drama in the closing stages, with Al-Diriyah missing an opportunity to regain the lead in the 78th minute after Darwin Núñez struck the post with a penalty.
Algerian forward Adel Boulbina appeared to have snatched a late winner for Al-Diriyah in the 94th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside, allowing Al-Taawoun to escape with a point.
The result took Al-Diriyah to 12 points, leaving them eighth in the standings, while Al-Taawoun moved to four points and remained 17th after ending their three-game losing streak.
Despite his team’s struggles, Hamdallah’s latest achievement represents another significant milestone in his Saudi Pro League career as he continues his pursuit of Al-Somah’s all-time goalscoring record.
