Manchester United close in on Carlos Baleba agreement
Manchester United are edging closer to an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for Carlos Baleba, as they look to bolster their midfield before the transfer window closes.
Talks remain active and constructive, although Brighton are still seeking a fee slightly above United’s current proposal.
United have submitted an offer worth £60 million upfront, plus up to £5 million in performance-related add-ons, according to David Ornstein. The package represents a serious attempt to secure the 22-year-old Cameroon international, but Brighton are holding firm on their valuation while negotiations continue.
Baleba has emerged as a priority target for head coach Michael Carrick, who wants greater strength and depth in central midfield. United have already added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, yet the club believes Baleba would provide a different profile through his athleticism, ball-carrying ability and defensive range.
The midfielder made 35 appearances in all competitions for Brighton last season, reinforcing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most promising young central players. Baleba is currently out of action due to an ankle injury he suffered on August 6th.
All parties are working toward a deal that would take Baleba to Old Trafford. While an agreement has not been finalised, the positive tone of discussions suggests United remain well placed to complete a significant late-window signing.
