Napoli seek long-term Anguissa deal amid Atalanta approach

\n\nSSC Napoli are determined to keep Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa despite interest from Atalanta, who have reportedly opened preliminary talks with the Cameroon international’s representatives.

Maurizio Sarri is understood to have identified the midfielder as a potential addition to his squad as Atalanta look to bring greater strength and experience to their midfield. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italian club has already made initial contact with people close to the player.

However, Atalanta face a difficult task in trying to prise Anguissa away from Napoli. The Partenopei regard the 30-year-old as a key part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans and have no intention of sanctioning his departure at this stage.

Anguissa’s role in Napoli’s midfield has made him a central figure in the club’s project. As a result, Napoli are attempting to retain him despite the interest from elsewhere and are also working to secure his future on a longer-term contract.

The Serie A club has offered Anguissa a new three-year deal that would extend his stay until 2030. Negotiations have yet to reach a conclusion, though, with the financial details proving the main obstacle.

The two sides remain some distance apart over salary terms. That lack of agreement could give Atalanta an opportunity to increase their efforts to sign the midfielder, although Napoli continue to appear committed to keeping the Cameroon international.

Anguissa made 22 appearances for Napoli in all competitions last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. The Yaounde-born player earns an annual salary of 3,460,000 euros, equivalent to 2,249,000,000 CFA francs, while playing in Italy.

The midfielder’s immediate focus is expected to be Napoli’s opening match of the Italian league season against Genoa. Napoli will begin their campaign in that fixture as negotiations over Anguissa’s future continue in the background.
