Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of former Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town winger Abednigo Mosiatlhaga.

The player joins the Citizens after spending the past three seasons in Angola, where he represented Futebol Clube Bravos do Maquis and Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela.

Mosiatlhaga’s move to Cape Town City represents a reunion with coach Andries Ulderink. The Dutchman previously worked with the winger while he was in charge of Ajax Cape Town at Ikamva.

That period proved to be Mosiatlhaga’s most productive spell in South African football. He scored 18 goals during the 2019/20 season, although Ajax Cape Town narrowly missed out on promotion.

Cape Town City will begin their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign next weekend, when they travel to face Real Native FC, formerly known as Casric Stars.

The club’s announcement follows an earlier report by iDiski Times that Mosiatlhaga was set to join Cape Town City. His arrival adds experience to the squad ahead of the new campaign, following his time in both South Africa and Angola.

Mosiatlhaga previously made his name in South African football with Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town. His strongest return came during the 2019/20 campaign with Ajax Cape Town, when his 18 goals helped the side compete for promotion.

Although Ajax Cape Town fell just short of securing promotion that season, Mosiatlhaga’s performances made it his most effective campaign in the South African game.

He will now work under Ulderink once again, having previously played for the coach during the manager’s spell in charge of Ajax Cape Town at Ikamva. The reunion is one of the notable aspects of the winger’s return to South African football.

Cape Town City’s opening fixture will come away from home against Real Native FC. The opponents were previously known as Casric Stars, and the match will mark the start of City’s Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.

Mosiatlhaga spent three seasons in Angola before completing his return to South Africa, playing for both Futebol Clube Bravos do Maquis and Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela during that period.

An interview with Ulderink is also available in Edition 269 of the iDiski Times e-paper, which is currently being offered free of charge on WhatsApp.
