Makhanya’s Rangers move and Chiefs academy stars lead iDiski Times 269

The 269th edition of iDiski Times is now available, featuring interviews, features and a range of perspectives from across the football world.

The latest issue places young Bafana Bafana central defender Olwethu Makhanya at the centre of its main coverage following his move from Philadelphia Union to Rangers in Scotland.

Lethabo Kganyago spoke to Makhanya about the opportunity to continue his career at Rangers, as well as the wider significance of the move and what lies ahead for the promising defender.

The edition also examines the players developed by Kaizer Chiefs who have become central figures in the Amakhosi first team. Matshelane Mamabolo interviewed Kaizer Chiefs DDC coach Vela Khumalo and Farouk Khan about the club’s player-development system and the footballers who have progressed through it.

Their discussion focuses on the talent produced at Kaizer Chiefs and the role those players now play in the senior side. The story offers insight from two figures connected to the development of players at the club.

As the MTN8 semi-finals approach, former Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo also features in the new edition. Mntambo is now one of the ambassadors for the MTN8 tournament, and Lethabo Kganyago spoke to him ahead of the next stage of the competition.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship is set to begin this weekend, and the issue also includes an interview with Cape Town City head coach Andries Ulderink. Ulderink took charge of the first team this season, with Rob Delport speaking to him before the campaign gets under way.

The regular iDiski’s Top Ten feature turns its attention to the Betway Premiership. This week’s countdown looks at the 10 foreign signings in the division, providing another focus on the players arriving from outside South Africa.

There is also the latest news and speculation in the Rumour Mill, while the World & South Africa section introduces readers to Manasse Kianga.

Kianga was born in Johannesburg and is currently making a major impact in Europe with Slovan Bratislava, despite remaining unfamiliar to many followers. His story is included among the international and local football coverage in the new edition.

The 269th issue brings together the Makhanya interview, coverage of Kaizer Chiefs’ player pathway, the build-up to the MTN8 semi-finals, the start of the Motsepe Foundation Championship and a look at foreign recruitment in the Betway Premiership.
