Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie closes in on Juventus move after Al Ahli spell
Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie is edging closer to a move to Italian giants Juventus after reportedly agreeing terms with the club, despite efforts from Saudi side Al Ahli to keep him.
Kessie is keen to return to Italian football and work under Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti, with the proposed move now dependent largely on the Turin club creating space in their midfield squad.
According to Tuttosport, an agreement between Kessie and Juventus is close, with the midfielder set to receive a three-year contract worth €4.5m (£3.8m) per season, plus a significant signing-on bonus.
Kessie chooses Juventus
The proposed terms would represent a financial compromise for Kessie, who could have earned more by remaining in the Saudi Roshan League.
Al Ahly have reportedly made attempts to persuade the 29-year-old to return, but the Ivory Coast international has made his preference clear and wants to continue his career with Juventus.
The move would also represent a return to Serie A for Kessie, who previously established himself as one of the league’s leading midfielders during his time with AC Milan.
Juventus need to make room
The main obstacle is now Juventus’ squad planning rather than negotiations with Kessie.
The Italian club are looking to reduce the number of midfielders on their books before registering the Ivorian, with Teun Koopmeiners, Fabio Miretti and Arthur among the players reportedly considered for departure.
Kessie, who is currently a free agent, would also be able to join and be registered by Juventus after the transfer window closes, giving the club additional flexibility in completing the deal.
There are reportedly no concerns over his physical condition, with the midfielder said to be maintaining a high level of fitness through individual training.
Spalletti waits for Kessie
Kessie will continue working individually while Juventus attempt to clear the necessary space in their squad.
The midfielder’s desire to join the Italian giants appears clear, while the agreement over personal terms is reportedly close to being finalised.
The remaining challenge is for Juventus to complete their squad changes and create room for the Ivorian, paving the way for Kessie to wear the famous black-and-white shirt and begin working under Spalletti
