Cagliari’s Yael Trepy in intensive care after drowning rescue
Cagliari have confirmed that French youngster Yael Trepy has been taken to hospital and is receiving treatment in intensive care after reportedly being rescued from drowning.
The Serie A club said Trepy is being cared for at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, where he remains under medical supervision. Cagliari added that it is in constant contact with the medical team and the player’s family as they monitor his condition.
In a statement published on the club’s official website, Cagliari said: “The player Yael Trepy is in Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, where he is in intensive care, and the club is in constant contact with the medical staff and the player’s family to follow developments in his condition.”
The club also asked for privacy for the player and his relatives, adding: “At this moment, everyone at Cagliari Calcio stands with Yael and his family. The club asks that their privacy be fully respected and will provide further updates as they become available.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Trepy was moved to intensive care after surviving a drowning incident. The newspaper said he was flown to the hospital by helicopter to ensure he could receive treatment as quickly as possible.
Trepy had started Cagliari’s most recent match, a 1-0 victory against Arezzo in the round of 64 of the Coppa Italia. The game was played on Friday, before the squad was given two days off.
Cagliari will continue their Coppa Italia campaign against Verona in the round of 32 in September. Before then, the club are due to begin their Serie A season at home against Parma on Saturday.
The club has not provided further details about Trepy’s condition beyond confirming his hospitalisation and intensive-care treatment. It said any additional information would be released when available, while reiterating its request that the privacy of the player and his family be respected.
