Rodri move to Barcelona awaits one last step in Manchester City talks

Barcelona and Manchester City are edging closer to an agreement over the transfer of Rodri, with only €10m separating the clubs after the Catalan side’s latest offer was submitted on Friday.

Barcelona’s formal proposal is worth €70m in total, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. The package consists of €60m in guaranteed payments, plus a further €10m in bonuses and performance-related incentives.

Manchester City have rejected that offer and are holding out for €80m, including the fixed fee and possible add-ons. The difference between the clubs has therefore narrowed to €10m, fuelling optimism at both sides that a deal could be completed in the coming days.

The negotiations are being handled by Barcelona sporting director Deco and his Manchester City counterpart Hugo Viana, both of whom are Portuguese.

Neither club has yet made the additional concession required to bring the discussions to a conclusion. The outcome now depends on whether Barcelona are prepared to improve their proposal, Manchester City are willing to reduce their demands, or the two sides can find another way to bridge the remaining gap through the structure of the transfer.

Talks are expected to continue despite the difficulty of conducting negotiations on Sunday, with both clubs involved in matches. If an agreement is not reached during the day, Marca reports that Barcelona and Manchester City remain confident the transfer could be finalised on Monday.

The latest offer followed several verbal proposals from Barcelona before the club submitted its official bid. Although Manchester City have maintained their valuation, the movement in the figures has brought the negotiations significantly closer to a resolution than at earlier stages.

The discussions began after Rodri made clear his desire to join Barcelona. The player rejected an offer from Real Madrid before expressing his preference for a move to the Catalan club.

That decision prompted Barcelona and Manchester City to open negotiations, with the two clubs now attempting to settle the final financial details. Barcelona are seeking to complete the transfer within their stated offer, while Manchester City continue to insist that the overall value must reach €80m.

For now, the proposed deal remains dependent on one final compromise. The clubs are expected to remain in contact, and the narrowing of the financial gap has left both parties hopeful that Rodri’s move to Barcelona can be concluded shortly.
