Real Madrid were met by a hostile reception outside their Barcelona hotel on Sunday, hours before their league meeting with Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou.
Around 100 supporters gathered outside the InterContinental Barcelona, near Montjuic, as the Real Madrid squad arrived for the eagerly awaited El Clasico. Some fans directed anti-Barcelona chants at the visiting team, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
Kylian Mbappe was the final Real Madrid player to leave the team bus and received the loudest cheers from the crowd. Some chants were also aimed at Portuguese Jose Mourinho, although they were not as enthusiastic.
Mundo Deportivo published footage of the reception on 25 October 2026, showing the atmosphere outside the hotel before a match that has generated significant anticipation and tension.
The game, scheduled for Sunday evening, could have a major influence on the Spanish league title race. A Barcelona victory would move Hansi Flick’s side nine points clear of Real Madrid and strengthen its position at the top of the table.
Barcelona’s advantage was reduced to two points by Atletico Madrid, who won on Saturday. That result has added importance to the Clasico, with Barcelona looking to restore its lead while Real Madrid seek to close the gap and disrupt their rivals’ plans at the summit.
Flick’s team are also attempting to continue their perfect start and move closer to a record of 10 consecutive victories since the beginning of the season. Real Madrid, meanwhile, enter the fixture with the immediate objective of reducing the deficit in the title contest.
The tension surrounding the match extends beyond the points at stake. Relations between the two clubs’ administrations have become increasingly strained because of disagreements over refereeing and public exchanges involving Florentino Perez and Jose Mourinho.
Those disputes have added another dimension to a fixture already followed closely by football supporters around the world. The scenes outside the hotel provided an early indication of the intensity surrounding the latest meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
