Liverpool seek clarity on Adam Wharton deal as Crystal Palace’s valuation emerges

Liverpool have made direct contact over Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as they assess whether a deal can be reached before the summer transfer window closes.

The move represents a step up in the club’s interest in the England midfielder, with Liverpool having moved beyond simply monitoring the player and begun communication ahead of any potential negotiations.

Football365 reports that Liverpool have contacted people connected with Wharton to explore the possibility of signing him. However, there has been no formal bid from the club at this stage, meaning discussions remain at an early point and no advanced negotiations are understood to have taken place.

Liverpool’s initial approach appears to be focused on establishing the conditions Crystal Palace would require for a transfer and determining whether an agreement over Wharton’s move could realistically be reached.

The midfielder’s valuation is understood to be a significant factor. According to a Spanish newspaper, Crystal Palace are asking for about 90m euros (£77m) for Wharton, a figure which has led Real Madrid to reconsider their interest in the deal.
