Juventus wait on Villa-Suzuki deal before deciding next goalkeeper move

Juventus are monitoring developments at Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain as they try to revive their interest in Emiliano Martinez and complete one of their main summer transfer targets.

The Serie A club have renewed their enquiries about Martinez, the Argentina international goalkeeper currently with Aston Villa, after following his situation closely for several months. The move could depend on a separate deal involving Aston Villa and Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Aston Villa are in talks to sign Suzuki, whose proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain has stalled. Juventus believe that if the Japanese goalkeeper joins the Premier League club, it could help create the conditions for Martinez to leave and give them a clearer route back into negotiations for the former Arsenal goalkeeper.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Juventus have again asked about Martinez, while Aston Villa have stepped up their efforts to recruit Suzuki.

“Aston Villa have strongly renewed their efforts for Suzuki and can now push to complete the deal if no further surprises arise,” Di Marzio said on his website. “At the same time, according to the information available, it is difficult for Juventus to return to direct negotiations with Parma for Suzuki, given the club’s high financial demands.”

The failed move to Paris Saint-Germain has therefore opened an opportunity for Aston Villa, while also potentially influencing Juventus’ plans between the posts. However, the Italian club’s interest in Martinez remains dependent on how the wider transfer situation develops.

Juventus are also considering other options before deciding who will become their next goalkeeper. Alongside Martinez, they are waiting to determine whether to accelerate talks for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The club have not yet settled on a final candidate and are assessing several names as they weigh the financial and sporting implications of each possible move. Their interest in Martinez is not new, but the latest developments involving Aston Villa and Suzuki have encouraged Juventus to revisit the possibility.

The situation could also affect Juventus’ outgoing business. Monza are hoping to re-sign goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, provided the chain of events involving Martinez, Suzuki and Juventus’ other goalkeeping targets moves in the right direction.

For now, Juventus are waiting for Aston Villa’s decision and for clarity over Suzuki’s future.
