Durban City bring former Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks back to South Africa

Durban City have signed former Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks after his season with Greek Super League club Panserraikos FC, adding him to their squad ahead of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

The 24-year-old returns to South African football after Panserraikos FC were relegated to Super League Greece 2, leaving Brooks searching for a new club following the 2025/26 campaign.

Durban City confirmed the move on Saturday, announcing Brooks alongside Mali left-back Alou Doumbia as the latest additions to their squad for the continuing 2026/27 campaign.

The club said both players had completed their transfers, joined their new team-mates in camp and begun training with the squad.

“Durban City FC is pleased to announce the signing of Ethan Brooks and Alou Doumbia as the Club continues to build its squad as the 2026/27 campaign continues,” the club stated.

“The two players have completed their moves to the Citizens, joined their teammates in camp, and have already started training with the squad.

“Brooks, 24, returns to South African football after spending the 2025/26 season with Greek side Panserraikos.”

Brooks previously played for TS Galaxy and AmaZulu before moving abroad to join Panserraikos FC. His return gives Durban City another option in midfield as they prepare for the demands of domestic football and their continental commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The midfielder was among the early players selected by Hugo Broos after the Belgian took charge of Bafana Bafana. Brooks went on to make 11 appearances for South Africa.

His most recent international appearance came in March 2022, when Bafana Bafana drew 0-0 with Guinea. That match remains his last outing for the national team.

Durban City’s announcement confirms that Brooks will now continue his club career in South Africa after one campaign in Greece. His arrival, together with Doumbia’s signing, forms part of the club’s efforts to strengthen their squad as the 2026/27 season progresses.

The two new arrivals have already begun working with the rest of the team in camp, giving Durban City an immediate opportunity to integrate them before their forthcoming fixtures.

For Brooks, the move represents a return to the South African game after his spell with Panserraikos FC. He had become available following the Greek club’s relegation to Super League Greece 2, but Durban City have moved quickly to secure his services.

The club’s statement did not provide further details about the length of either player’s contract.
