Kaizer Chiefs preserved their winning start to the DStv Diski Challenge season with a 1-0 victory over Richards Bay on Saturday morning.
The Soweto side had to wait until the closing stages before securing the decisive goal, with Keitumetse Lesia finding the breakthrough against the Natal Rich Boyz.
Chiefs had shown considerable resilience in their previous match, recovering from two goals down to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns. Richards Bay, meanwhile, were beaten by AmaZulu in the KwaZulu-Natal derby last week.
Tashiel Rugunanan made his first appearance for the Diski Challenge team after receiving the Champ of Champs Defender-of-the-Tournament award last weekend.
Orlando Pirates beaten for a second time
Orlando Pirates suffered their second defeat of the campaign as Siwelele FC claimed a 2-1 win on Saturday morning.
Pirates had earned their first victory of the season the previous weekend by thrashing Stellenbosch FC. Siwelele had also opened their account last weekend, beating Chippa United for their maiden win.
The hosts levelled shortly before half-time when Lucky Muthewi scored. Lebohang Mobe then struck in the second half to complete Siwelele’s comeback and secure the points.
Thivovo and Gumede lead Arrows rout
Golden Arrows recorded consecutive victories in the Diski Challenge after a dominant result against Chippa United on Saturday morning.
The fixture was listed as a 9-2 win for Golden Arrows, while the match account described the result as an 8-1 thrashing.
Thivovo enjoyed a standout performance by scoring a hat-trick. Diego Gumede went even further, adding five goals of his own as Golden Arrows took control of the contest.
TS Galaxy and AmaZulu share points
TS Galaxy and AmaZulu were unable to find a way through as they played out a goalless draw at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Saturday morning.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock, leaving the teams to settle for a point apiece.
