Ferran Torres transfer reshapes Barcelona’s all-time sales rankings

Barcelona have confirmed the transfer of Spain forward Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain, with the 26-year-old’s departure set to become the fifth-most expensive sale in the club’s history.

Barcelona are expected to receive about €50m for Torres, according to Mundo Deportivo. The move brings his time at the Catalan club to an end and allows Barcelona to recover most of the fee they paid to sign him from Manchester City.

Torres joined Barcelona for an initial €55m in a deal that could have risen by a further €10m in variables. He still had a contract with the club until the summer of 2027, but expressed a desire to seek a new challenge.

The transfer therefore suits all parties. Torres gets the change of surroundings he wanted, while Barcelona secure a substantial financial return and gain additional funds for their summer transfer plans as they prepare to strengthen the squad for next season.

His move to Paris Saint-Germain places him fifth in Barcelona’s list of biggest player sales, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona’s 10 biggest sales

Neymar remains at the top of the ranking after Paris Saint-Germain activated the Brazilian’s release clause in the summer of 2017. He moved to the French club for €222m, a fee that remains the highest in football history.

Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo occupies second place after joining Juventus in 2020 for €80.6m. The transfer was linked to Miralem Pjanic’s move in the opposite direction that summer, with Barcelona paying €60m plus a further €5m in potential add-ons for the Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder.

Luis Figo’s transfer to Real Madrid in 2000 remains one of the most controversial departures in Barcelona’s history. The Portugal international, then one of the Catalan club’s leading players, moved to their historic rivals after Real Madrid paid the €60m release clause in his contract.

Ousmane Dembele ranks fourth following his 2023 transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The French club paid €50m to sign the forward, who later won the Ballon d’Or in 2025.

Torres follows immediately behind Dembele, with Barcelona set to receive close to €50m for his move to Paris Saint-Germain. That fee takes the club close to recovering the amount invested in his signing from Manchester City.

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez is sixth in the ranking after joining Arsenal in 2014 for €42.5m. He went on to enjoy a successful spell in London and produced a series of impressive performances for the club.

Paulinho spent just one season at Barcelona but made a clear attacking contribution, scoring nine goals. The Brazilian arrived from Guangzhou Evergrande in 2017 for €40m before returning to the Chinese club, which later paid an additional €2.5m to complete the transfer.

Malcom also had a brief Barcelona career, spending only one season with the team. Barcelona signed him from Bordeaux for €41m and sold him to Zenit the following year for €41.5m.

Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen moved to Valencia in 2019 for €35m in a deal that also involved Neto joining Barcelona for €26m.

Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas completes the top 10. He left Barcelona for Chelsea in 2014 for €33m.
