Charlton consider Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo in Championship move

Nigeria and England goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is being linked with a move from Wrexham to Championship rivals Charlton.

The 24-year-old joined Wrexham permanently from Arsenal in July 2024 after spending the previous season on loan at the Welsh club. He signed a contract that runs until 30 June 2027, meaning any potential deal would involve Charlton negotiating with Wrexham rather than waiting for the goalkeeper to become a free agent.

Okonkwo made his move to Wrexham permanent after helping the club secure promotion to the third tier during the 2023-24 campaign. He had originally arrived on loan from Arsenal in September 2023, having also spent time away from the north London club with Austrian side Sturm Graz and Crewe Alexandra.

The goalkeeper remains listed as a Wrexham player, with the club and Charlton both competing in the Championship. His recent competitive involvement has been limited: he was included in Wrexham’s EFL Cup squad for the 2026-27 campaign but has not made an appearance in the competition.

Okonkwo came through Arsenal’s academy and progressed into the club’s senior set-up before leaving for Wrexham. He has represented both Nigeria and England at international level classifications, while his current club record places him among Wrexham’s goalkeeping options.

The rumour was recorded on 15 August, with no transfer fee or agreement stated. Okonkwo remains under contract at Wrexham until June 2027.
