Timo Schultz hails Ghana’s Daniel Kofi Kyereh’s special qualities after reunion at Osnabruck

VfL Osnabruck head coach Timo Schultz has praised the “special qualities” of Ghana international Daniel Kofi Kyereh after the 30-year-old completed a move to the German club.

Kyereh has joined Osnabruck on a free transfer, returning to the club after a lengthy injury lay-off. His arrival also reunites him with Schultz, who previously coached him at FC St. Pauli.

It was under Schultz that Kyereh enjoyed the most productive period of his career in German football. During two seasons with St. Pauli, the versatile attacker scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists in 62 2. Bundesliga appearances.

His standout campaign came in 2021/22, when he contributed 12 goals and 10 assists as St. Pauli challenged for promotion.

Schultz believes Kyereh’s qualities can make a significant difference for Osnabrück once he returns to full fitness.

“I know from our collaboration what special qualities Kofi possesses as a footballer and as a person. He was an absolute difference-maker at St. Pauli and earned his performances through his footballing ability, but also through a great deal of hard work,” Schultz said.

Kyereh’s career was interrupted in February 2023 when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for SC Freiburg.

He subsequently endured a lengthy rehabilitation process before returning to competitive action with Freiburg II earlier this year.

Osnabrück have closely monitored his recovery and believe he can soon return to first-team training.

Kyereh, who will wear the No. 7 shirt, has earned 18 caps for Ghana and featured in all three of the Black Stars’ group matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
