Noussair Mazraoui’s Manchester United comeback delayed after injury during international break
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui has yet to recover fully from a knock sustained while on international duty, leaving his return to action uncertain.
Carrick said the club would continue to assess the right-back’s condition before deciding when he could resume playing.
“Mazraoui came in with a knock and hasn’t fully recovered yet, so we’ll have to wait and see how he is,” the Manchester United coach said.
The manager did not provide a specific timeframe for the defender’s return, meaning his availability for the club’s upcoming fixtures remains unclear.
Injury sustained during Morocco duty
Mazraoui reportedly picked up the injury during Morocco’s encounter against Lesotho in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. He was forced to leave the pitch before the final whistle.
The defender subsequently returned to Manchester United, where the club’s medical staff are monitoring his recovery and assessing his readiness to return to full training.
His progress will determine when he can rejoin competitive action, with the club yet to confirm whether he will be available for its next match.
United await recovery progress
Mazraoui’s versatility makes him a useful defensive option for Manchester United, with the Moroccan international capable of operating at right-back and in other positions across the back line.
His ability to contribute defensively and support build-up play could make his absence significant if the injury keeps him out for an extended period.
However, Carrick’s comments indicate that United are taking a cautious approach, prioritising an assessment of the player’s condition rather than committing to a return date.
Morocco also monitoring Mazraoui’s fitness
Mazraoui remains an important member of the Moroccan national team, having featured in major international competitions for the Atlas Lions.
His recovery will therefore be closely watched by both club and country as they prepare for their respective upcoming commitments.
