Hatta sign Tunisia striker Seifeddine El Geziri after Zamalek contract termination
Hatta have signed Tunisia striker Seifeddine El Geziri on a free transfer, shortly after his contract with Egyptian club Zamalek was terminated by mutual consent.
The UAE club confirmed the arrival of the 33-year-old forward on Wednesday, 12 August, although it did not disclose the length of his contract.
El Geziri’s move comes less than a week after Zamalek reached an amicable agreement with the player to end his spell at the club. He leaves Zamalek as the club’s highest-scoring foreign player.
Hatta will begin their UAE league campaign on Sunday, 16 August, when they face Al Jazira in the opening round of the competition. The club secured promotion to the top flight after winning the UAE second division last season.
The signing gives Hatta an experienced attacking option as they prepare for their return to the UAE’s premier division. El Geziri joined Zamalek in 2021 from fellow Egyptian club Arab Contractors and spent the following years establishing himself as an important figure in the team’s attack.
During his final season with Zamalek, El Geziri played 22 matches and scored four goals. Across his time at the club, he made 185 appearances, scoring 48 goals and providing 19 assists.
His spell in Cairo also produced a significant collection of honours. El Geziri won the Egyptian Premier League three times with Zamalek, as well as the Egypt Cup twice. He was also part of the side that lifted the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup once each.
Zamalek’s decision to settle the player’s contract amicably brought an end to El Geziri’s four-year association with the club. The Tunisian forward now begins a new chapter in the United Arab Emirates with Hatta, who will be aiming to make a successful return to the top division.
The club’s first test will come against Al Jazira on Sunday, with El Geziri potentially making his debut as Hatta start their campaign among the UAE’s leading teams.
