Paul Pogba leaves AS Monaco after contract is terminated with immediate effect
AS Monaco have terminated Paul Pogba’s contract with immediate effect, bringing an unsuccessful spell at the club to an early end.
A financial agreement between the two parties is expected to be reached soon, with Monaco set to take responsibility for the remaining balance of Pogba’s salary.
The 2018 World Cup winner is also reported to have suffered a leg injury during training. However, the injury is not believed to be connected to the decision to end his contract.
Pogba’s future is now uncertain after his short and difficult stay in the Principality. The 33-year-old midfielder made only six appearances for AS Monaco following his arrival last summer and also had to deal with injuries during his time at the club.
The French daily reporting the development expects the financial arrangements between Pogba and Monaco to be settled shortly. The club’s responsibility for the outstanding part of his wages forms part of that anticipated agreement, although no further details have been given.
Pogba joined Monaco in 2025, following a two-year suspension for doping imposed in 2023. At the time of his suspension, he was under contract with Juventus, but that agreement was subsequently terminated by the Italian club.
That allowed Monaco to sign Pogba as a free agent. His move to France represented a return to football after his disciplinary suspension, but his time with the club has been limited by a combination of injuries and a lack of regular appearances.
The midfielder previously played for Manchester United and Juventus. His departure from Monaco leaves his next move unresolved, with no indication in the report of where he could continue his career.
The immediate termination marks the end of Pogba’s brief association with AS Monaco. The club had recruited him after his Juventus contract was ended, but he managed only six matches before the relationship came to an end.
With the reported leg problem adding to his recent difficulties, Pogba’s playing future remains unclear. Any resolution over his salary and the final terms of his departure is expected to come before the next stage of his career is decided.
