Valentine Nguele urges Cameroon to embrace Morocco semi-final challenge

Valentine Nguele has called on Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses to approach their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against hosts Morocco with determination, freedom and enjoyment.

The Cameroon manager spoke on the eve of the match and made clear that her side would not be distracted by the pressure of facing the host nation in front of its own supporters. Instead, Nguele wants her players to focus on preparing properly, competing without reservations and making the most of an important opportunity.

Cameroon face a significant challenge against Morocco, whose home advantage will bring strong support from the stands. Notre priorite est donc de bien nous preparer et de galvaniser les joueuses qui vont defier le pays hote devant son public. Mais surtout, elles doivent profiter pleinement de ce moment unique. Je veux qu’elles soient heureuses de vivre cette experience, qu’elles accomplissent leur reve et qu’elles donnent tout jusqu’au bout. Elles doivent se battre sans retenue, afin de ne nourrir aucun regret au coup de sifflet final. Qu’elles jouent avec determination, mais surtout avec plaisir.”

At the heart of Nguele’s message is a desire to remove the burden of pressure from her squad. Rather than allowing the occasion or the Moroccan crowd to weigh heavily on the players, she wants them to see the semi-final as a unique experience and an opportunity to fulfil a dream.

The manager’s approach combines competitive ambition with an emphasis on emotional freedom. She expects Cameroon to fight fully until the final whistle, but also believes the players must enjoy the occasion instead of being consumed by its importance.
