Real Madrid settle Vinicius Junior contract dispute with deal to 2032

Real Madrid have ended one of the most closely watched transfer sagas of recent months by reaching a final agreement with Vinicius Junior over a contract extension until 2032, after negotiations were threatened by a dispute over the Brazilian forward’s financial demands.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, talks between the club and Vinicius lasted 18 months and became increasingly tense as the player pushed for a deal reflecting his status and importance to the team.

Vinicius, who is 26 and considers this the most significant contract of his career, wanted a net salary of up to 30m euros per year. His demands also included a substantial renewal bonus and improved terms relating to image rights.

Real Madrid initially resisted those conditions. The club was determined not to disrupt its existing wage structure and made an opening proposal worth 22m euros annually. That offer was immediately rejected by the player.

The situation became more complicated in recent weeks when Arsenal emerged as a serious contender for Vinicius. The London club was prepared to make a major financial offer in an attempt to take advantage of the stalled negotiations and came close to persuading the Brazil international to move.

However, Real Madrid brought the matter to a conclusion during a decisive meeting at the start of August.

The turning point came when the Spanish club agreed to improve its proposal and move closer to Vinicius’ expectations. The revised package is worth more than 22m euros and combines a fixed salary within Real Madrid’s established wage structure with significant performance-related bonuses and incentives.

The most important of those additional payments is understood to be the renewal bonus, which helped bridge the gap between the club’s position and the demands made by the forward.

Despite reaching an agreement, Real Madrid and Vinicius have decided not to disclose the final financial details. The arrangement has been described as an “agreement of silence”, designed to protect stability within the dressing room.

The decision to keep the figures confidential is also intended to prevent the new contract from becoming a benchmark for other senior players at the club. Real Madrid are keen to avoid Vinicius’ terms being used as a reference point by Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and the rest of the squad when their own contracts come up for renewal.

The agreement brings an end to a prolonged period of uncertainty surrounding Vinicius’ future. Arsenal’s late involvement had added pressure to the discussions, but Real Madrid ultimately managed to retain their Brazilian star and secure his commitment through to 2032.

The final deal represents a compromise between the player’s wish for a contract worth as much as 30m euros net per season and the club’s refusal to abandon its internal salary framework. It also allows both sides to conclude negotiations that had remained unresolved for a year and a half.
