Goue Seuns sporting director Luvhengo Mungomeni targets promotion and player development in Limpopo

Former Black Leopards and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Luvhengo Mungomeni says he is determined to help build Goue Seuns FC into a reputable club after taking on the role of sporting director in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

Goue Seuns FC have bought a status in the provincial competition, which is the third tier of South African football. The club was founded by local businessman and community builder Aifheli Mbedzi and will represent the Makhado Local Municipality in Venda.

Mungomeni told Soccer Laduma that the project gives him an opportunity to support young players from his home area and help them progress into professional football.

“It will be a good one. We are going to try our best to make it a reputable one. It’s going okay. The boys are training, and the coaches are assessing players. It’s an exciting project for me, because it’s the kind of project that I’ve been crying for in my village,” Mungomeni told this publication.

The club’s players are already training, while the coaching staff assess the available talent ahead of the 2026/27 ABC Motsepe League season, which is expected to begin next month.

Mungomeni said Goue Seuns would not be satisfied simply with participating in the competition. He wants the club either to challenge for promotion or to develop players who can move into the professional ranks.

“We just don’t want to be in a project where tomorrow we say, ‘Let’s leave it. It’s not beneficial’. For us it’s to take those kids, underprivileged ones, and have the good talent and send it to the Premier League or professional ranks. That’s what we are going to try and do. Yes, I know there’s Venda Football Club in our area, but we are going to feed those professional teams,” he continued.

“Unless if God says, no, you are going to the professional ranks, then we will go. It’s two-fold; either we win promotion or we produce players for professional teams.”

The former defender believes Goue Seuns can uncover a significant number of promising footballers because the Venda region has a history of producing players who have gone on to play professionally.

He pointed specifically to Nzhelele, an area that has previously produced several footballers, including Rudzani Ramudzuli, Joel Masutha, Richard Lishivha, Amon Phophi and Mashudu Mamphitha.

“If you check our area, Nzhelele, it produced so many players. You can count Rudzani Ramudzuli, Joel Masutha, Richard Lishivha, Amon Phophi, Mashudu Mamphitha… so it’s a lot of them. The area has been producing professional players, and we are trying to revive that,” added Mungomeni.

Goue Seuns’ immediate challenge will be to establish themselves in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, while creating a pathway for players from the local community to reach professional teams.
