Egypt awarded hosting rights for 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations

Egypt will host the 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved the country’s bid to stage the tournament, which will serve as a qualifying competition for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed in an official statement that it had submitted a request to CAF to host the finals of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations. CAF has now granted Egypt the right to organise the event.

According to the proposed schedule set out by the EFA, the tournament is expected to take place in November 2027. No specific dates or host venues have yet been announced in the information released.

The decision forms part of a wider CAF announcement outlining the timetable for its major competitions through to next year. The schedule also includes the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

That tournament is scheduled to run from 19 June to 17 July 2027, with qualifying due to begin in September 2026.

Egypt have been drawn in a qualifying group alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi. Their campaign is due to begin in September, when they will face Angola at home before travelling to play South Sudan.

CAF also confirmed the planned dates and hosts for several other upcoming African competitions.

The 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be held in Ghana during February and March. The 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations is scheduled for April and May in Morocco.

The 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from 12 to 21 October, while Senegal will host the 2026 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in November.

Egypt’s selection as host of the under-23 tournament gives the country responsibility for a competition linked to qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics. The event will therefore bring together Africa’s leading eligible young players while also forming part of the continent’s route to the 2028 Games.

The announcement was made on Monday, 10 August 2026. It follows the EFA’s formal request to CAF and was included in a series of scheduling decisions covering the continent’s men’s national-team competitions across different age groups and formats.

For Egypt, attention will now turn first to the senior Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with Angola and South Sudan the national team’s opponents in September. The country will then prepare to stage the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in November 2027, subject to the final tournament schedule.
