Lucas Digne returns to Paris Saint-Germain targeting trophies after Aston Villa move

Lucas Digne says Paris Saint-Germain’s identity is built around winning after completing his return to the French club from Aston Villa, 10 years after his first spell in the capital.

The France international thanked the club’s hierarchy after officially rejoining the squad and said he was excited by the progress Paris Saint-Germain had made since his previous time there.

“I would like to thank president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos, the sporting director, and manager Luis Enrique. It is a great sign of trust, and I am extremely happy to be back at Paris Saint-Germain. I am also impressed. The club has changed and reached another level. It is truly wonderful to be back here,” Digne told Paris Saint-Germain’s television channel.

Digne first represented the club a decade ago before moving on in his career. Reflecting on that period, he said it had provided an important foundation for his development as both a footballer and a person.

“It was a lesson in professional football and excellence. It shaped me as a player and as a person, and I learned a lot from playing alongside players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva. I won many trophies. It was a wonderful story, and it had to continue. I am incredibly eager to get to know the team that has won the Champions League twice,” he said, according to the club’s official website.

The defender also highlighted his reunion with Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos, who arrived at the club at the same time as Digne and has since established himself as one of its leading figures.

“I cannot wait to see Marquinhos again. We joined here at the same time, and he is now the captain of the team and has had a fantastic career. It is wonderful for him,” Digne added.

Digne already knows Luis Enrique from their time together at Barcelona and is also looking forward to reconnecting with members of the France squad and staff from his first spell in Paris.

“I know Luis Enrique from Barcelona, and we had a great experience together. I am looking forward to seeing my France team-mates again, as well as the other people I got to know during my first spell here, such as the kit staff. It is really nice, and you feel at home very quickly,” he said.

The 31-year-old believes he is returning to Paris Saint-Germain as a more mature player, with greater experience to offer a squad that continues to set ambitious targets.

“I am coming back as a more mature man, and as a different player too. I have gained more maturity and experience, and I want to pass that experience on to the team so that we can win many trophies. This club was built to win; it is an integral part of its identity. This team is extremely ambitious, and that is evident year after year. That is why everyone wants to come and play in Paris,” Digne said.

He also recalled the atmosphere at Parc des Princes, including his return there with Aston Villa in the Champions League.

“Parc des Princes is a magical place. Once you have played there, you long to return. When I had the chance to come back here with Aston Villa in the Champions League, it was a magical moment. It is a stadium that stirs deep emotions. I would like to thank the supporters sincerely for the support I received before signing the contract, and I cannot wait to join them at Parc des Princes to celebrate many victories this year,” he said.
