Zamalek to take legal action over video targeting first-team players

Zamalek have announced they will take legal action against a journalist over a video the club says contains insulting remarks about some of their players.

The journalist is a member of the Egyptian Press Syndicate. Zamalek said the video had circulated on social media and targeted players who have not yet joined the team’s training sessions.

The club also denied that the journalist has any connection with Zamalek in any capacity.

In an official statement, Zamalek’s board said the video did not represent the club’s official media operation and confirmed that a complaint would be submitted to the Egyptian Press Syndicate.

“The board of directors of Zamalek Club confirms that the video circulating on social media, issued by one of the journalists who hold membership of the Press Syndicate, against some players in the first football team, does not represent any capacity at the level of the club’s official media.

“The club stresses that it is in the process of taking all necessary legal measures to preserve the rights of its players and protect the club’s rights. A complaint will be submitted against him to the Press Syndicate.

“The board of directors of Zamalek calls on all media organisations to verify the accuracy of any news or information circulated about the club and not to target any member of the White Castle.”

Zamalek’s reference to the “White Castle” reflects the nickname commonly used for the Cairo club.

The Egyptian side are preparing for the start of the 2026-27 season. They will open their Egyptian Premier League campaign against Al Ittihad Alexandria on 21 August at Cairo International Stadium.

Zamalek won the Egyptian Premier League title last season, securing the championship for the 15th time in the club’s history.

The club’s statement did not identify the journalist or the players involved in the video. It said the legal action was intended to protect the rights of both the players and Zamalek, while stressing that the footage had no connection with the club’s official media activities.

The announcement comes as Zamalek prepare for their first league fixture of the new campaign, with the club also seeking to ensure that reports and information concerning the team are handled accurately by media outlets.
