Fiorentina announce loan move for Real Madrid and Argentina youngster Franco Mastantuono
Franco Mastantuono has officially moved from Real Madrid to Fiorentina on loan, with the Argentina international set to begin a new challenge in Italy next season.
Fiorentina confirmed the deal in an official statement, saying it had secured the sporting rights to Mastantuono from Real Madrid on a temporary basis. The move takes one of the Spanish club’s notable players to Serie A, where he will continue his development with Fiorentina.
The Italian club described Mastantuono as a player with significant experience despite his young age. Born in Azul, Argentina, on 14 August 2007, he came through the youth system at River Plate before making his senior debut for the club at the age of 16.
Since that first-team breakthrough, Mastantuono has made 64 appearances for River Plate and scored 10 goals. His performances at the Argentine club helped establish him as one of the country’s most highly regarded young players before his move to Real Madrid.
During the previous season, Mastantuono played 35 matches for Real Madrid across four competitions. Those appearances came in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, with the midfielder scoring three goals.
Fiorentina also highlighted Mastantuono’s international record. He is the youngest player to make his debut for the senior Argentina national team, and has represented the world champions on four occasions.
His move to Fiorentina gives him the opportunity to gain further experience in Italian football after a campaign in which he featured regularly for Real Madrid across domestic and European competitions.
The agreement was formally announced by Fiorentina, which confirmed that the player would join on loan from Real Madrid. The club’s statement presented the transfer as the beginning of a fresh stage in Mastantuono’s career, following his progression from River Plate’s academy to senior football, then to the Spanish side and the Argentina first team.
Mastantuono’s career has developed quickly since his debut for River Plate at 16. In a relatively short period, he has moved from youth football in Argentina to senior international football and appearances for Real Madrid.
Fiorentina will now become the latest club in that progression. The Italian side’s announcement confirms that the 2007-born Argentina international will spend the upcoming season in Italy after recording 35 appearances and three goals for Real Madrid in the previous campaign.
