Milford FC sign Stellenbosch FC utility player Azasakhe Lukhango

Newly promoted Betway Premiership club Milford FC have signed Stellenbosch FC utility player Azasakhe Lukhango, iDiski Times can confirm.

The 20-year-old Cape Town-born player has already begun pre-season training with Milford and could make an appearance for Xanti Pupuma’s side during the 2026-27 campaign.

Lukhango is capable of operating in more than one position, giving Milford an additional option as they prepare for their first season in the Betway Premiership after winning promotion.

The player initially made his name as a midfielder. In 2024, he was named midfielder of the tournament at the Engen Knockout Challenge while representing Stellenbosch FC.

He was subsequently promoted to Stellenbosch FC’s reserve side, where he was converted into a right-back. Lukhango played an important role as the club established itself in the DStv Diski Challenge, helping the side after it secured consecutive DStv Diski Challenge titles.

His versatility could allow Milford to use him in either of two teams. He may feature for the club’s reserve side in the DStv Diski Challenge or compete for a place in the senior squad in the Betway Premiership.

That flexibility is expected to give Milford further depth as the newly promoted side adjusts to the demands of top-flight football. Lukhango’s development from a recognised midfield performer into a right-back at reserve level has also widened the positions in which he can contribute.

Milford will now assess his progress during pre-season before deciding how he fits into Pupuma’s plans. With the player already training with the club, he could be involved when the team begins its competitive campaign.

The move takes Lukhango from Stellenbosch FC’s development structure to a Milford FC side preparing for the higher level of competition presented by the Betway Premiership. His previous experience in the DStv Diski Challenge, together with his ability to play in midfield or at right-back, provides the club with an adaptable option.

Lukhango’s award at the 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge remains the clearest early recognition of his ability in midfield. His later positional change at Stellenbosch FC, and the role he played in the reserve side’s successive DStv Diski Challenge title wins, have added to his footballing profile.

Milford FC have therefore secured a player who has experience in both midfield and defence, while retaining the option of using him at senior or reserve level. His eventual role will be determined as the club continues its preparations for the new Betway Premiership season.
