Celtic reach agreement with Real Oviedo to sign Haitham Hassan

Celtic have reached a final agreement with Real Oviedo to sign Egypt winger Haitham Hassan during the summer transfer window, according to Greek journalist Giorgos Tsarouchas.

The deal is reportedly worth £11.5m, including add-ons, with Hassan set to sign a four-year contract that will run until 2030.

The agreement will also include a substantial bonus for both the player and Real Oviedo if Celtic reach the league phase of the Champions League.

Celtic are due to face Austrian side LASK in the final qualifying play-off for a place in the main stage of the competition. Their progress in Europe could therefore have a direct bearing on the financial terms attached to Hassan’s move.

The Scottish club have made signing a right winger who can operate on the left side of the attack a priority this summer. Their pursuit of Frosinone forward Fares Ghedjemis ended after the Italian club rejected a £6m offer.

According to the report, Celtic’s recruitment plans will turn to a left winger once Hassan’s transfer has been completed. Utrecht player Adrian Blake is understood to be top of their list of candidates for that position.

Spanish reports have claimed Real Oviedo are reluctant to release Hassan unless they receive the full value of his release clause, which is €12m. Villarreal, his former club, are entitled to 40% of any transfer fee received for the player.

Hassan played twice for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. He provided an assist against Argentina and also contributed to another goal with an impressive piece of play, although that goal was disallowed after a video assistant referee review.

The 23-year-old helped Real Oviedo win promotion to Spain’s top division, but the club returned to the second tier after just one season.

Hassan made 38 appearances for Oviedo last season, recording three assists without scoring. His performances have nevertheless made him a target for Celtic as they seek to strengthen their wide options.

The reported agreement would make Hassan one of Celtic’s major attacking additions in the current transfer window. However, the final outcome may depend on the club completing the financial arrangements with Real Oviedo, including the release clause and the bonuses linked to Champions League qualification.
