Sundowns take top spot in new CAF club ranking as Al Ahly fall to second

Mamelodi Sundowns have moved to the top of the Confederation of African Football’s official club ranking for the 2026-27 season, replacing record African Champions League winners Al Ahly, who have dropped to second.

The South African side, who won the competition last season, lead the standings with 73 points. Al Ahly are five points behind on 66 after the ranking was calculated using clubs’ continental results from recent seasons.

Esperance de Tunis have climbed to third with 58 points, while RS Berkane continue their rise in fourth on 57. USM Alger complete the top five with 52 points.

Zamalek are the highest climbers among the other Egyptian clubs. They have moved up to sixth with 49 points after reaching last season’s CAF Confederation Cup final. Pyramids FC, who won the Champions League two seasons ago, have slipped to seventh on 48 points.

AS FAR remain inside the top 10 in eighth with 41 points, followed by Al Hilal of Sudan on 39 and CR Belouizdad of Algeria on 38.
