Greuther Furth bring in Egypt-Germany midfielder Omar Megeed from Hamburg SV II

Egyptian-German attacking midfielder Omar Megeed has joined Greuther Furth from Hamburger SV II on a free transfer, moving into the 2. Bundesliga after completing his switch on 5 August 2026.

Megeed, 20, has signed a contract with Greuther Furth until 30 June 2028. The Hamburg-born midfielder is predominantly right-footed and operates in an attacking midfield role.

The move takes Megeed from the Regionalliga Nord to Germany’s second tier after two seasons with Hamburger SV II. He made 69 appearances in the competition, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.

Megeed’s senior experience also includes two appearances in the 2. Bundesliga. He played two minutes at that level before making the move to Greuther Furth, while his record in Germany’s regional fourth tier represents the bulk of his competitive football to date.

Before joining Hamburger SV II on 1 July 2024, Megeed was with Hamburg. He had progressed through the club’s youth system, having previously represented HSV’s under-19 and under-17 sides.

His youth career began with Hamburg-based clubs Einigkeit and Suderelbe before he moved into the Hamburg academy structure. He joined Suderelbe’s youth setup in February 2019 and moved to Hamburg’s youth ranks in July of that year.

Megeed also recorded 24 appearances for Hamburg’s under-19 side in the U19-Bundesliga North/Northeast, contributing six assists. At under-17 level, he scored seven goals and supplied three assists in 14 appearances.

Greuther Furth have added a midfielder with experience across regional football, youth Bundesliga competition and the 2. Bundesliga. Megeed now begins the next stage of his career with the club after leaving Hamburger SV II without a transfer fee.

The completed move places the 20-year-old under contract at Greuther Furth through the end of June 2028.
