Anthony Limbombe: Sliema Wanderers sign Belgium and DR Congo winger from Akritas

Anthony Limbombe has joined Sliema Wanderers from Akritas Chlor. on a free transfer, giving the Maltese club an experienced left winger ahead of the new season. The 32-year-old completed the move on 5 August 2026 and has agreed a contract running until 30 June 2027.

Limbombe arrives after a short spell with Akritas, whom he joined from Kiryat Shmona in February 2026, also on a free transfer. Before moving to Cyprus, he spent the 2025-26 season with the Israeli club after leaving SK Beveren at the end of the previous campaign.

The winger has played across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Israel and Cyprus during a senior career that began with Genk. He made 104 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring 11 goals and providing 17 assists, while also featuring 64 times in the Dutch second tier, where he recorded 20 goals and 17 assists.

Limbombe’s career includes spells with NEC Nijmegen, Club Brugge, Nantes, Standard Liege, Almere City and SK Beveren. His move to Club Brugge from NEC in 2016 was completed for €2.3m, while Nantes paid €8.25m to sign him from Club Brugge two years later.

He won the Belgian title twice, with Genk in 2010-11 and Club Brugge in 2017-18. His honours also include the Belgian Cup with Genk in 2013, the Dutch second-tier title with NEC Nijmegen in 2015 and the Belgian Super Cup with Club Brugge in 2018.

A right-footed player who operates mainly from the left flank, Limbombe stands 1.77m tall and was born in Mechelen. He has represented both Belgium and the Democratic Republic of the Congo at nationality level, as reflected in his listed nationalities.

His arrival adds a player with experience of domestic competition in several European leagues and of continental football, including appearances in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa League qualifying. Limbombe has also featured in the Jupiler Pro League play-offs, the French Cup and the KNVB Beker.

Limbombe’s free transfer to Sliema Wanderers is complete, with his contract in Malta extending through June 2027.
