Salah unveiled by Trabzonspor after free-transfer move is confirmed

Trabzonspor have officially completed the signing of Egypt captain Mohamed Salah on a free transfer, bringing an end to one of the summer transfer window’s most closely followed sagas.

The Turkish club released a video on its official social media accounts showing Salah wearing Trabzonspor’s burgundy and blue shirt for the first time.

“Wearing the burgundy and blue shirt in front of the cameras for the first time… and the first message to Trabzonspor’s great fans,” the club said alongside the footage.

Salah addressed supporters directly in the video, asking: “Trabzonspor fans, are you ready? See you soon.”

He also added the Turkish phrase: “Bize Her Yer Trabzon”.

The expression is a famous slogan among Trabzonspor supporters. Its literal meaning is “Everywhere is Trabzon for us”, reflecting the belief that the club’s fans remain at home wherever they travel. It is also an expression of loyalty, belonging and pride in the club.

The announcement follows several days of rapid developments. Trabzonspor initially confirmed that it had entered formal negotiations with Salah before announcing the player’s expected arrival in Turkey. He then underwent a medical examination and completed the procedures required for the transfer, paving the way for the official confirmation.

Salah’s decision brings to a close a prolonged period of uncertainty over his next destination. His name had been linked with several clubs in recent weeks, including Turkish side Besiktas, Atletico Madrid in Spain and Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Diriyah. There had also been interest from clubs in Major League Soccer.

The Egypt international ultimately chose to continue his career in Europe with Trabzonspor, who will rely on his experience to help lead the team domestically and in continental competition during the new season.

The move also begins a new chapter in the career of one of the most accomplished players in Egyptian football history. Salah’s transfer follows the end of his nine-year spell with Liverpool, where he won a number of major honours.

Among those trophies were the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. His time at Liverpool also produced a long list of individual achievements and records.

At Trabzonspor, Salah will now be expected to bring the experience gained during that highly successful period to a team hoping to compete strongly in Turkey and on the European stage. The club’s unveiling video marks his first public appearance in its colours and delivers his opening message to the supporters who will follow his next stage in European football.
