Bayern Munich v Aston Villa: 2.06 odds point to a high-scoring Hong Kong friendly

Bayern Munich and Aston Villa meet in Hong Kong on Friday with more than three goals predicted at odds of 2.06, as both clubs continue preparations for the new season in South-East Asia.

The match, which begins at 12:00 GMT on 7 August 2026 at Kai Tak Stadium, will be Bayern’s fourth pre-season fixture and Aston Villa’s sixth. Nasser Eddy, a consultant for NCI Sport and presenter of the European Champions League on radio Nostalgie, has provided his assessment and predictions for the game.

Bayern have scored 19 goals and conceded two in their three preparation matches so far. Vincent Kompany’s side began with a 2-1 defeat by SV Wehen before responding with a remarkable 15-0 victory over Rottach-Egern. They then beat South Korean side Jeju United 2-1 on Tuesday.

The German champions have scored in the opening 15 minutes of all three games, while Peruvian attacking midfielder Felipe Chavez has emerged as one of the most encouraging discoveries of their preparations. He has scored three times and, alongside Bastian Assomo, has helped cover for the current absences of Harry Kane and Michael Olise.

Bayern are targeting success in every competition they enter this season, beginning with the German Super Cup against 22 August. Their preparations are taking place both on and off the pitch, with the club seeking to secure the futures of highly sought-after players such as Olise while also attempting to move on Joao Palhinha and Sacha Boey.

The Bavarian club have also been active in the transfer market, signing Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari for a combined €100m. Further additions are still expected, with one or two more arrivals possible.

Aston Villa’s first major competitive test is even closer. Unai Emery’s team face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, 12 August, which has contributed to their busy schedule since 21 July.

Villa recorded a 3-1 win over Thailand’s BG Pathum United on Tuesday. Their overall pre-season record stands at three victories and two defeats from five matches. Like Bayern, they have scored in every game, finding the net 16 times while conceding eight.

Villa have also made fast starts a feature of their preparations. In four of their five matches, the opening goal came within the first 15 minutes.

The London club have attracted greater attention in the transfer market than Bayern so far. Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United for €41m, while Morgan Rogers has moved to Chelsea for €138m. Villa have recruited Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton and Johan Manzambi from Freiburg. Ivory Coast international Evann Guessand, who returned from a loan spell at Crystal Palace and started against Pathum United on Tuesday, appears likely to leave.

Despite the stature of both clubs, Bayern have never beaten Aston Villa in their two official meetings. Villa won both encounters, beginning with a 1-0 victory in the May 1982 European Champion Clubs’ Cup final, the club’s only success in what is now the Champions League.

Villa repeated that scoreline in early October 2024, defeating Bayern in the league phase of the same competition.

One of Bayern’s most notable pre-season developments has been the emergence of 16-year-old German centre-forward Bastian Assomo. With Kane currently absent, Assomo has been given a run of first-team appearances and has impressed both observers and supporters. He has scored in each of his past two matches and is expected to start again against stronger opposition on Friday.

The prediction is for a draw, priced at 4.19. Both teams are expected to score, with that outcome available at 1.41, while more than 3.5 goals is priced at 2.06.
