Nora Fatehi rejects romance rumours surrounding Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou

Nora Fatehi has denied speculation that she is romantically involved with Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, saying their relationship is limited to “a dear friendship”.

The Moroccan-Canadian performer addressed the rumours during an appearance on The Kris Fade Show this week, following a series of public appearances alongside the Al Hilal goalkeeper that prompted widespread discussion on social media.

Fatehi, 34, firmly rejected reports that the pair had been developing a romantic relationship over recent months. Her comments were reported by Iram News and appeared aimed at ending the speculation surrounding their appearances together.

The singer and dancer has become a major figure in Indian entertainment, having built an international profile through her work in Bollywood and her performances in Hindi-language films.

From Toronto to Bollywood

Fatehi was born in Toronto, Canada, on 6 February 1992. She developed an early interest in performance and singing before taking the decision to move to India at the age of 20 to pursue a career in the country’s film industry.

She settled in Mumbai in late 2012 or early 2013, living in a luxury apartment in the upmarket Worli district. The city became the base for her rise in Bollywood and her eventual global success.

Although she has Moroccan heritage, Fatehi became fluent in Hindi and went on to work mainly in Hindi-language Indian cinema. She appeared in a number of films that achieved considerable popularity with audiences.

Her acting career formally began in 2014 with Tigers of Sundarbans. However, it was her dance performances in Indian films that brought her widespread recognition and established her as one of the leading dancers in contemporary Indian cinema.

In 2016, she appeared as a contestant on the reality television programme Bigg Boss and also took part in the dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Those appearances helped accelerate her rise to national fame.

Fatehi’s defining breakthrough came in 2018, when she performed in the film Satyameva Jayate on a new version of the song “Dilbar”. The song reached more than 20 million views on YouTube within its first 24 hours, becoming the first Indian song to reach that figure in India.

World Cup appearances

Her profile has extended beyond entertainment and into international sport. In October 2022, Fatehi was selected to take part in “Light the Sky”, a song associated with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Four years later, she returned to the football stage by appearing at the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. She attracted attention at the third opening ceremony, held in her home city of Toronto at BMO Field before Canada played Bosnia.

Fatehi currently has nearly 50 million followers on Instagram, giving her one of the largest social media audiences among entertainers and influencers in the Arab world and India.

Her repeated appearances with Bounou in recent months introduced her to a different audience through football and its global following. The pair were seen together at several social and sporting events, leading to intense speculation about the nature of their relationship.

Fatehi has now described Bounou only as a “dear friend”, bringing her public response to the rumours to a clear conclusion.
