Four Al Ahly players earn Egypt U-23 call up ahead of 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers

Four Al Ahly players have been called up to the Egypt Olympic team for a training camp as preparations begin for the 2026 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, which will serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa confirmed through the club’s official website that Mohamed Abdullah, Mohamed Raafat, Omar Sayed Moawad and Ahmed Khaled Kabaka have been summoned to join the Olympic squad.

The quartet were absent from Al Ahly’s training session on Saturday as they reported for national team duty.

The Egypt Olympic team will hold the camp at the National Teams Center in the 6th of October City from September 27 to 30 as the technical staff continues preparations for the upcoming continental competition.

The call-up provides the four Al Ahly youngsters with an opportunity to work with the Olympic team and strengthen their chances of being involved in Egypt’s plans for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly have resumed their preparations for their upcoming fixtures after returning to group training at the Mokhtar El Tetsh Stadium at the club’s Al Jazira branch.

The Egyptian giants are using the current international break to work on their physical and technical readiness ahead of the resumption of competitive action.

As part of their preparations, Al Ahly are scheduled to play two friendly matches against Libyan side Al Ittihad Al Misrati and Misr El Makasa.

The friendly encounters will form part of the club’s preparations for their upcoming Egypt Capital Cup fixture against Petrojet.

The Al Ahly technical staff will use the matches to assess the squad and give players valuable minutes ahead of the return to official competition.

The absence of the four youngsters for Olympic team duty means Al Ahly will have to manage their preparations without the players before they return to the club following the international camp.
