Egypt and National Bank star Osama Faisal risks missing South Sudan trip amid passport issues

Egypt and National Bank striker Osama Faisal could miss the Pharaohs’ trip to South Sudan for Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier due to an issue surrounding his passport.

Faisal has emerged as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is expected to miss the Group B encounter after an agreement was reached for the Egypt captain not to travel to Juba.

However, Egypt’s plans to bring in the National Bank forward have been complicated by concerns over his travel documents.

The national team has reportedly checked the status of Faisal’s passport to determine whether it is valid and ready for international travel ahead of the delegation’s departure on Sunday afternoon.

The situation remains unresolved, leaving Faisal’s chances of travelling with the Pharaohs uncertain.

Egypt are keen to have the striker available as they prepare for a difficult away assignment against South Sudan, particularly after failing to win their opening qualifier against Angola.

Hossam Hassan’s side were held to a goalless draw at the Cairo International Stadium, while South Sudan began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Malawi.

Faisal’s possible inclusion would give Hassan another attacking option following Salah’s absence, but the passport issue must first be settled before the striker can join the delegation.

Egypt are also dealing with other absences ahead of the trip, including Nice defender Mohamed Abdel Moneim, who has been left out of the squad for the match because of concerns over the artificial turf at Juba Stadium.

The Pharaohs are scheduled to face South Sudan on Tuesday as they seek their first victory in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

With the team due to leave on Sunday, the decision on whether Faisal can travel is expected to be made before the delegation departs for Juba.
