Trabzonspor president says no agreement has been reached with Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan says the Turkish club has not reached an agreement with Mohamed Salah and denied reports that the former Liverpool forward is preparing to travel to Trabzon.

Speculation linking the Egypt captain with a move to Trabzonspor has gathered pace in Turkish media and on social media, but Dogan said those reports did not reflect the current situation.

“There is a lot being said, but there is no agreement with Mohamed Salah,” Dogan told Turkish broadcaster A Spor.

He also rejected claims that Salah was due to arrive in the city in the coming hours.

“There are no arrangements for him to travel to Trabzon tomorrow. If there had been such a plan, we would have informed the media and our supporters,” he said.

Dogan acknowledged that Trabzonspor would like to sign a player of Salah’s stature but stressed that no deal was in place.

“Who would not want to sign a player of Mohamed Salah’s calibre? Of course we would like that, but the truth is that there is no agreement at this moment,” he added.

His comments follow reports in Turkey that Trabzonspor officials had held a meeting with a representative of Salah. Those reports claimed the club had presented an official offer and discussed its terms.

The proposed package was said to include an annual salary of 17m euros and a two-year contract.

When asked directly whether he had entered negotiations with the Egypt captain, Dogan declined to give a definitive answer.

“I do not want to talk about this matter,” he said.

He later repeated that neither an agreement nor a plan for Salah to visit Trabzon existed.

“The fans want to see a player like Mohamed Salah wearing the Trabzonspor shirt, and I want that too. But there is no agreement so far, and there is no plan for him to come to Trabzon,” Dogan said.

The Trabzonspor president also explained why the club had been cautious in its public comments during the transfer process.

“As president of the club, I have to choose my words carefully. In some deals, we have to follow a particular approach in negotiations because any statement can affect the progress of the talks,” he said.

Dogan promised that the club would inform supporters of any developments once they occurred.

“There is currently no agreement or planned journey, and when there is any news, we will inform our fans directly,” he added.

Salah became a free agent after terminating his Liverpool contract at the end of last season, a development that has prompted widespread speculation about his next club this summer.

The 33-year-old had reportedly been close to joining Besiktas in recent days, but talks failed to produce a final agreement after financial differences emerged between the two sides.

Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also continuing to monitor Salah’s situation. Al-Ittihad are among those understood to have shown significant interest in signing him during previous transfer windows.
