Adi Hutter explains Younes Ebnoutalib’s Frankfurt role

Younes Ebnoutalib began Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-1 victory over Mainz on the bench, but coach Adi Hutter insists the decision does not signal a permanent change in his status.

Frankfurt started with one striker, Jonathan Burkardt, who justified his selection by scoring once and contributing to another goal.

“Someone had to bite the bullet,” Hutter said about Ebnoutalib. “You could say: We got everything right.” However, the coach immediately stressed that the forward should not expect to remain the regular player left out of the starting lineup. “It doesn’t mean that Younes will always be the player who has to bite the bullet,” Hutter added.

The situation remains open ahead of Frankfurt’s upcoming match against Freiburg. Hutter is considering different tactical approaches and could use either one or two forwards, depending on the formation.

A switch to a back four would potentially create room for Ebnoutalib to return to the starting XI. The coach has not revealed a clear preference yet, leaving the attacker’s position uncertain until matchday.

For Ebnoutalib, the message is encouraging. Although Burkardt currently has momentum, Hutter’s comments show that the competition remains fluid. The forward will therefore continue pushing in training for another opportunity to lead Frankfurt’s attack.
