Essam Abdel Fattah to lead Egypt’s refereeing committee for 2026-27 season
The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed the full membership of its refereeing committee for the 2026-27 season, with former referee Essam Abdel Fattah appointed as chairman.
The new committee will oversee refereeing matters in Egyptian football during the forthcoming campaign. The announcement provides the complete structure of the panel, including two vice-chairmen and two additional members.
Gamal El-Ghandour and Samir Othman have both been named vice-chairmen, while Ahmed Wagih and Mahmoud Ashour will serve as members.
Ashour’s appointment comes shortly after he worked at the 2026 World Cup as a video assistant referee. His inclusion means the committee contains an official who has recently been involved in refereeing at one of the sport’s biggest international tournaments.
The full Egyptian refereeing committee for the 2026-27 season is:
– Chairman: Essam Abdel Fattah – Vice-chairman: Gamal El-Ghandour – Vice-chairman: Samir Othman – Member: Ahmed Wagih – Member: Mahmoud Ashour
The Egyptian Football Association’s announcement completes the line-up ahead of the new domestic season. Essam Abdel Fattah will head the committee, with El-Ghandour and Othman supporting him in the two vice-chairman roles.
The committee’s confirmation comes before the draw for the new Egyptian Premier League season, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 5 August.
The draw will establish the fixtures for the upcoming league campaign, while the new refereeing committee prepares to begin its work for the 2026-27 season.
Zamalek were crowned Egyptian Premier League champions last season. Pyramids won the Egyptian Cup during the same campaign.
The announcement was made on Saturday, 1 August 2026, at 17:00. It confirms the final composition of the Egyptian referees’ committee after the Egyptian Football Association selected the officials who will lead and serve on the panel for the new season.
With the committee now set, attention will turn to the league draw on 5 August and the start of preparations for the 2026-27 domestic campaign. The roles have been clearly allocated, with Abdel Fattah taking the senior position, El-Ghandour and Othman appointed as his deputies, and Wagih and Ashour completing the membership.
The decision also places Ashour, who recently officiated as a video assistant referee at the 2026 World Cup, among the committee’s members for the coming Egyptian football season.
